Mosquito Control

Since 1980, we began our mosquito control program when we learned about a neighbor who contracted encephalitis by a mosquito. We knew we could play a small part in helping the public health by spraying for mosquitos. Today we continue spraying residential homes as well for state contracts. Below are various questions and answers that may help determine if mosquito spraying would be beneficial to you.

FAQs

Is there a minimum acreage to be eligible to be sprayed?

Yes, there’s a minimum of 10 acres.

How much does it cost to spray mosquitos?

$14.75 per acre.

What kind of chemical do you use and how does it work?

AgriFlite uses an adulticide called Dibrom. This product can suppress the adult mosquitos you have on your property at the time of the spray. The insecticide absorbs into the insect’s system and binds to enzymes involved in the transmission of nerve impulses.

How much chemical do you use?

According to the Material Safety Data Sheet for Dibrom, AgriFlite uses 1 oz of Dibrom per acre mixed with water.

Will Dibrom kill bees?

Yes, It’s important that all beekeepers are registered on Driftwatch. We have technology that will allow us to pull up Driftwatch while we map fields. This is very important.

How many times do you recommend spraying?

AgriFlite recommends at least two sprays. The goal of the spray is to break the breeding cycle of the mosquitos. Two sprays would allow the spray to kill adult mosquitos you have on your property at the time of the spray. When you spray a week or two later, it will kill the adult mosquitos that were larva at the time of the first spray. When we kill the mosquitos throughout a complete cycle, the better the chances are that it will eliminate the breeding ground.

What time do you spray?

We start spraying around 7:00pm in the evening, we do have night vision googles which will allow us to spray in to the night.

How do I get my name on the list.

Please fill out our Application Request Form.

How long is the spray effective for?

It will depend on the weather. The spray will suppress the adult mosquitos at the time of the spray. If it rains the following day, larva could hatch. Therefore we recommend at least two sprays.

How can I be proactive to help eliminate the amount of mosquitos on my property?

Drain - mosquitos are likely coming from water filled containers.

Dress - light and loose fitting clothing

Defend - Mosquito spray or oil of lemon eucalyptus

What time of the year do you start spraying for mosquitos? Do you spray all summer?

We start spraying around Memorial Day weekend and finish spraying mosquitos around Labor  Day weekend. This is all dependent on the weather and temperatures. We will spray in June, July and August but when our crop season begins we will focus on completing field crop acres before mosquitos.
